The issue of Zimbabwe returning land to former white farmers that were dislodged during Robert Mugabe’s chaotic land reform in the early 2000s continues to be contested terrain.
The Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association members have expressed their disappointment with president Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration plans to return land to former white farmers who were dispossessed in the chaotic early 2000s land reform programme.
Zimbabwe has signed a $3.5 billion deal to compensate white commercial farmers who were evicted from their land 20 years ago. 4,500 white farmers had land expropriated without compensation to settle 300 000 black families.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration has agreed to pay USD$ 3,5 billion to compensate white commercial farmers that were evicted two decades ago.
