Former Zimbabwean finance Minister and vice Chair of the opposition MDC Tendai Biti, was convicted and fined $200 dollars and slapped with a 6-month suspended jail term by a Zimbabwean court, for unlawfully and falsely announcing the 2018 presidential election results; a judgement he intends to appeal. Tendai Biti joins CNBC Africa to discuss the state of Zimbabwe’s political economy.

This past week saw political and church leaders trying to find solutions for the mounting challenges facing Zimbabwe. On Wednesday a national dialogue was called by President Emmerson Mnangagwa that saw some opposition leader attend but was snubbed by the main opposition MDC Alliance.

Its president Nelson Chamisa instead attended another gathering the following day, a national leaders prayer meeting. One of the MDC Alliance leaders and former Finance Minister Tendai Biti is in South Africa and speaks to the SABC about why his grouping wasn’t heeding calls to engage Mnangagwa.
