Early this month Zimbabwe’s foreign affairs minister Sibusiso Moyo threatened to cut off diplomatic ties with the US after he sharply criticised the US ambassador to Zimbabwe Brian Nichols and called him an “opposition citadel”.

The scathing attack left relations between the two countries at a new low, despite efforts by Zimbabwe to re-engage with the US, which has imposed economic sanctions on the country.

Nehanda TV spoke to Information Ministry Permanent Secretary Nick Mangwana who claimed there was nothing wrong in rebuking the ambassador and that re-engagement with America was still on track.

Zimbabwe’s Foreign Affairs Minister Sibusiso Moyo has admitted that there are elements in the security forces who allegedly violate human rights in that country. Zimbabwe has come under fire from the international community after women’s rights groups in that country accused some security force members of abusing women. SABC Editor Sophie Mokoena spoke to Zimbabwe’s Foreign Affairs Minister about these allegations.
