The United Kingdom earlier this week held a summit on Female Genital Mutilation and the forced marriage of young girls. Prime Minister David Cameron said it’s crucial for the world to protect its girl children. Early marriage is an especially prominent issue in Sub-Saharan Africa. In Zimbabwe, for instance, 31 percent of girls get married before the age of 18. Poverty is the main reason for that statistic. CCTV’s Farai Mwakutuya spent some time with a group hoping to curb the practice.
