For more than a decade, Zimbabwe’s agriculture has been in a slump. New farmers, who had taken over land under the land reform programme, failed to access markets particularly abroad. But now things are changing. In Nyanga, in the eastern part of the country, a successful out-grower scheme is up and running and is feeding-markets in the USA.

The 55th edition of the Zimbabwe international trade fair is underway in the country’s second biggest city Bulawayo. This year has seen a record number of international exhibitors from at least 26 countries participating in the event.

Tobacco farmers in Zimbabwe are a depressed lot. After investing a lot of money in the crop ahead of what initially seemed like a fruit full season, prices have nose plunged by over 70% in some cases, exposing many small scale farmers to heavy losses.
