Controversial businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei seen here playing golf with President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the first ever Putt-Out challenge at the Royal Golf Club in Harare.
Writing on his X account, Mnangagwa said the event was “in support of the ED-UNZA Scholarship Fundraising Programme. This initiative enables underprivileged students to access higher education at the University of Zambia and select institutions in Zimbabwe.”
Prominent journalist Hopewell Chin’ono believes Tagwirei “deliberately used the golf day and the video “to show Chiwenga’s faction—and Zimbabweans at large—just how close Tagwirei is to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, following ZANU PF spokesman Chris Mutsvangwa’s public dressing down of Tagwirei at a press conference this week.”

“After Mutsvangwa’s dismissal of Tagwirei, this was meant to show people in ZANUPF and others that they are trying to stop what, according to Mnangagwa’s camp, is unstoppable,” Chin’ono argued.
Its thought by many that Mnangagwa is either grooming Tagwirei, his business ally, to take over as Vice President in place of Chiwenga or even become the President should he step down earlier.
