The African Union (AU) has called for President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration to respect human rights and uphold democratic principles as the political crisis continues engulfing the country.
AU Commission chairperson Moussa Mahamat in a statement said the organisation was concerned about reports of disproportionate use of excessive force by Zimbabwe’s security forces in enforcing Covid-19 emergency measures.
The AU Commission while awaiting a report from the two special envoys sent by AU chairperson and South African leader Cyril Ramaphosa has demanded Mngangagwa’s government to exercise restraint in response to peaceful protests.
