Despite crocodile tears from President Emmerson Mnangagwa bemoaning the brutality of state security forces, a Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) officer was on Thursday filmed assaulting a civilian.
On Tuesday Mnangagwa issued a statement saying violence by Zimbabwe’s security forces during a brutal crackdown on fuel protests had been “unacceptable”.
In his first statement since returning to Zimbabwe after cutting short an international trip to deal with the crisis, Mr Mnangagwa said that “if required, heads will roll”.
