South African Home Affairs Minister, Malusi Gigaba says he will not resign unless the President asks him to. In an interview with SABC news a short while ago, Gigaba said he could not have approved the Fireblade Terminal at the OR Tambo international Airport. The interview comes amid mounting pressure on the minister to resign after the Public Protector recommended that the President takes action against him for lying under oath in court in the Fireblade Aviation case. Home Affairs Minister, Malusi Gigaba, claims that a leaked video is at the centre of blackmail and extortion attempts against him. In a series of Tweets, he apologises to his family and the public for the – quote – ‘pain and embarrassment’ that the circulation of the video will cause.
Zimbabweans living in South Africa had until midnight on Wednesday to apply for special permits to remain in the country, or face deportation. Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba introduced the Zimbabwean Special Permit on August the 12th this year.
