The aim of the bicycle competition was to raise awareness of the hardships women face. The competition was to portray how a Lango woman struggles to provide for her family including fetching water, cooking, gardening, caring for her husband and children. All the bicycle competitors were provided with mosquito nets and soap.

A group of MDC-T youths early Friday staged a demonstration at the party headquarters in a show of displeasure at recent incidents of violence. There were claims the youths had been bused in by a faction of the party loyal to Secretary General Tendai Biti.
